❓ What is FilmGap?

FilmGap is a daily movie game where you connect two actors through movies they’ve appeared in together. My inspiration came from long drives when I was a kid and a love of movies.

❓ How do I play?

You’re given a starting actor and a target actor. Your goal is to link them using movies and other actors they’ve worked with. You have 4 guesses (5 total links).

❓ What happens if I finish in fewer moves?

The fewer guesses you use, the more popcorn you earn. A perfect solve in 1 guess scores 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 — the highest possible 5/5. Eventually we'll introduce global numbers and a potential leaderboard.

❓ What counts as a win?

A win means you connected the starting actor to the final actor within 4 guesses (5 links max). If you lose, you can’t retake the game. There’s no single right answer—multiple paths can win.

❓ What kinds of movies are included in the game?

FilmGap only includes theatrically released feature films released from beginning of time until 120 days out from the current date. That means no TV shows, no direct-to-streaming-only series, no short films, no documentaries, and no made-for-TV or concert specials. Sometimes they make it in there but we try our best to exclude.

All movie data comes from TMDb (The Movie Database), so if something seems off, that’s probably why.

❓ When are new games released?

New puzzles drop daily at midnight Pacific Time.

❓ Do I have to play every day?

Nope. But if you want to keep your streak alive, play once a day. Missing a day resets your streak.

❓ Can I play older puzzles?

Yes! Visit the Archive. Just note: only the current day’s game affects your streak and stats.

❓ How do you track my streak?

We use your browser’s localStorage to track and send that to a secure database:
– Current streak
– Total games played
– Wins
– Fastest win
No personal data is saved. Just game stats. Also don’t clear your cache unless you’re okay starting from scratch.

❓ Do I need an account to play?

Nope. No login. No email. Just play and enjoy. Just dont clear you cookies or you'll lose your progress. Cross device is not enabled yet.

❓ What if two actors were in multiple movies together?

You’ll be prompted to choose the movie you meant. Only one film per move is allowed.
